"Casino Club Before An All Nighter"

Preparatory Pencil Sketch

An original pencil sketch of Wigan Casino.

Northern Soul artist Neil Thompson recreates a scene showing the crowds gathering before an all-nighter at Wigan Casino. Teenagers with hold alls and record bags crowd the pavement in front of the club. Coaches are parked up with Northern Soul fans who have made the journey heading to the entrance to the club. Back in the 1970's this is how it was - the best nights ever!

The pencil sketch is a preparatory work for a water colour painting with the same title.

Neil has been into the Northern Soul scene since the early 1970's, all his art is drawn from memory. He was a regular at Wigan Casino and many other Northern Soul clubs throughout the 1970's. His art is regarded by many people as an iconic part of the Northern Soul scene.

Close up details from the sketch can be seen in images 2 to 4.

The sketch has been completed on 250 gram art paper, and measures 36 cm wide by 26 cm tall.
